Peruvian taekwondist Julissa Diez Canseco obtained the fifth place in the -49kg category at the 2015 WTF World Taekwondo Championships held in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
"I'm very thankful and happy for this great day, for the importance of this competition and the points obtained for [advancing in] the world ranking, which have helped me to continue adding and, thus, facing the next challenges," she declared.
The outstanding Peruvian athlete beat East Timor’s Luisa Dos Santos Rosa by a score (6-4) in her first fight, whereas in the next phase, she managed to be Latvia’s Inese Tarvida (4-2).
In the third round, Julissa prevailed over Thailand's Chanatip Sonkham, in her pursuit towards reaching quarter-finals. There, she was beaten by Russian Svetlana Igumenova (2-3).
Despite the defeat, Diez Canseco obtained the 5th place and is the only representative from the Americas included among the top 5 of this world championship.
"We are very motivated, always thinking on the final objective, we are paving the way towards Rio 2016 Olympic Games," she said.
