Brussels' Royal Museum of Art and History is hosting the
Inca Dress Code exhibition featuring some 200 pre-Colombian artifacts including textiles, ornaments, jewelry, and Lord of Sipan replicas.
"The Inca Dress Code collection on pre-Colombian textiles is the most important held over the past years in Europe and features different cultures that have succeeded one another in time, such as Chavin,
Paracas, Nazca,
Moche, Huari, Tiahuanaco, Chimu, and the Inca Empire," the Peruvian diplomat told Andina news agency.
Held on November 22, the launch ceremony was attended by about 800 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, European institutions, Belgian Government, academics, and personalities in the cultural realm, who expressed their admiration for the exhibit.
The display will remain in place through April 2019 and includes a series of associated activities like debates, guided visits, an international conference on textiles, and master classes on traditional weaving.
About the exhibit
This is the first time objects from the
Art and History Museum in Brussels, the
Linden-Museum in Stuttgart (Germany), the
MAS in Antwerp (Belgium) —and from private Belgian collections— will be exhibited around this newly-presented theme.
The magnificence of textiles, the quality of precious metalwork, and the beauty of pre-Colombian feather works will sure amaze anyone.
Visitors will also discover the mastery of the art of weaving, the sophistication of the motifs, as well as the varied and still vibrant colors of fibers and feathers.
Through the discovery of their wardrobe (shoes, clothes, headdresses, and jewelry) visitors will share in the daily life of these people from the past and admire exceptionally high quality, vividly colored items, as well as impressive precious metalwork.
