Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti explained that Peruvians must adapt their way of living as she provided details on her sector's actions to contain the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We have changed the strategies. The first stage was acute but now the pandemic spreads in a sustained manner," the high-ranking official explained.
"The world we knew no longer exists. It is different. Peru is different, and we have to adapt our way of living," she added.
According to Mazzetti, the current situation is complicated because the health sector is understaffed.
"The
primary care level has never been prioritized. Everyone believes that the most sophisticated medicine is what matters most. However, the key lies in preventing people from getting sick at home," she expressed.
The Minsa head stated that 80% of people show no symptoms. "Some drugs have been tested, others are currently in clinical trials, and there are drugs that have not been tested yet. Using untested medication, hoping it will work, is a delusion, there are risks."
Her remarks were made on Sunday night in an interview with Punto Final TV show.
