Health Min: Peruvian COVID-19 test to be ready soon

12:14 | Lima, Jul. 23.

Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti affirmed that in 15 days Peru will rely on its own rapid molecular test for the diagnosis of COVID-19, which will allow early detection of citizens infected with the new coronavirus.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official recalled that the National Health Institute (INS) had informed her that the research is well-advanced and that rapid molecular tests can be used in two weeks.

"It feels us with pride to see the outcome of Peruvian wisdom. Rapid molecular tests will be able to detect virus particles without the need to carry out a whole process that delays obtaining results. The INS is moving forward and will be of great help in virus surveillance," she said in remarks to Canal N.

On the other hand, Minister Mazzetti referred to the decision of the Health Ministry (Minsa) to ensure that healthcare facilities rely on their own plant —in the medium term— to produce oxygen instead of depending on other markets to obtain it.

13 oxygen production plants offering a purity of not less than 93% have already been created. Besides, Minsa has arranged to buy small plants with the aim of ensuring access to this medical gas, she explained.
