Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has affirmed that the national vaccination plan will continue even with the upcoming political changes thanks to the institutional framework in the health sector.

He noted that the institutional framework in the health system has created strengths, so he is confident that there will be no setbacks in the continuity of the actions undertaken to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the change of government.

"I am sure the commitment will continue even with the natural changes that will be introduced as part of the political changes, but we are convinced that the institutional framework is maintained and has created strengths. There will be no setbacks or weakness in the continuity of the actions," Ugarte stated.

In this sense, the minister expressed gratitude to those who participate in the challenge of vaccinating all the (eligible) population by the end of the year.

He noted that the joint efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), the private sectors, as well as health services of the Armed Forces and the National Police have contributed to attaining the accomplishments in the National Vaccination Plan.

The government official admitted that segmentation made the sector poorly efficient, but it was precisely during the pandemic that various instances learned to work as a single unit.

"If there were no joint participation from sectors and sub-sectors, as well as coordination with national, regional, and local governments, we would not have achieved what is seen by outside the country as an important example," he said.

Remarks were made at the Vaccinathon's closing ceremony held at Mayta Capac ecological park in Lima's district of San Martin de Porres.
