Peruvian national soccer team's captain and striker Paolo Guerrero arrived Monday in Lima to join the training sessions ahead of the
2019 Copa America tournament and expressed his wish to excel with the
Peru squad.
"This return to the national team is a very emotional moment for me. I'm excited about playing a good Copa America," Peru's all-time top goalscorer said upon arrival at Lima-based Jorge Chavez International Airport.
Guerrero scored a goal in Inter's 2-0 win over Avai in the sixth round of the Brasileirao last weekend.
Since
his comeback to the field, the Peruvian has netted 9 goals in 13 matches wearing the jersey of Porto Alegre's International.
The Incas will play Costa Rica in one of their two friendlies before the Copa America gets underway. The match will take place at the Monumental Stadium in Lima's Ate district on June 5 with an 8:30 PM kick-off.
The second friendly —scheduled for Sunday, June 9, at 4:00 PM— will be against Colombia at the same venue.
On June 12, the
Gareca's men will leave for Porto Alegre to prepare for their debut at the aforementioned Conmebol championship.
