Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister received by Pope Francis

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa was received by Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday, October 17, as part of his trip to various countries in Europe and North America.

During the meeting with the Supreme Pontiff, the Peruvian high-ranking official highlighted the ties between Peru and the Holy See.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Landa stressed the importance of democratic governance for sustainable development and the closing of social gaps in the care of those most in need. 

Within this framework, the Cabinet member will hold a meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, at the Holy See. It will be also attended by the Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher.

During said visit, they will sign a certificate of delivery and repatriation of three pre-Columbian Peruvian mummies that are currently held at the Vatican museums.

In addition to the Holy See, the Peruvian government official will visit Belgium, France, Italy, the Holy See, and Mexico.

The Executive Branch authorized the Minister's trip through Supreme Resolution No. 244-2022-PCM, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on October 12.
