Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister authorized to travel to Europe and Mexico

The Executive Branch has authorized Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa to travel on official duty outside Peru with the aim of visiting Belgium, France, Vatican City, and Italy, as well as Mexico, from October 12 to 21.

Supreme Resolution 244-2022-PCM, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano, details the activities that the minister will carry out in Europe and in North America.

In this regard, it states that the Peruvian government official will sign two documents with European Union High Representative Josep Borrell, within the framework of a working visit to Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, from October 12 to 14.

One of the documents to be signed is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invigorate political dialogue, as well as to expand and diversify the areas of cooperation with the EU bloc.

Minister Landa will also sign the Framework Agreement for Peru's participation in EU crisis management operations, which will provide legal framework for the country to contribute to international peace and security missions organized by the EU.

Likewise, he will meet with senior authorities of the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium, in order to address the common agenda with the European bloc and the aforementioned country.


Meanwhile, from October 15 to 16, Minister Landa will travel to Paris, France, to hold working meetings at the Peruvian Embassy regarding Peru's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and to participate in a meeting with representatives of the Peruvian community residing in said French city.

On the other hand, from October 16 to 18, the Cabinet member will hold a meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, at the Holy See, which will be also attended by the Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher.

During said visit, they will sign a certificate of delivery and repatriation of three pre-Columbian Peruvian mummies that are currently held in the Vatican museums.

Moreover, while in Rome, Italy, the Peruvian minister will participate in the events to take place within the framework of the 2022 World Food Forum, organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as well as in high-level meetings. He will also meet with representatives of the Peruvian community residing in said city.

Afterwards, from October 19 to 21, the high-ranking official will travel to Mexico City in order to take part in the activities organized within the framework of the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Pacific Alliance convened by the United Mexican States, in its capacity as holder of the Pro-Tempore Presidency.

According to the aforementioned resolution, the Foreign Affairs sector is entrusted to Justice and Human Rights Minister Felix Chero as of October 12 and for as long as Minister Landa's absence lasts.
