Peruvian Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras announced that the Executive Branch will inject nearly S/200 million (about US$54.2 million) in the following months to enhance public safety, as part of the "Boluarte Plan."
"In this second half of the year, around S/200 million (about US$54.2 million) would be injected in the following months, precisely to strengthen security (...) these resources are part of the Boluarte Plan," he told RPP Noticias on Thursday.
The minister explained that such resources would be used to fund specific requests.
"Better infrastructure and more instruments are required," he underlined.
In this regard, the Cabinet member stressed that a historic increase in the Public Sector Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2024 is being allocated to combat delinquency and organized crime.
Said historic budget would reach S/6 billion (about US$1.625 billion).
"I am quite confident that the Congress of the Republic will back this budget proposal, although the willingness to hold dialogues and reach consensus will always be there," he said.
Structural change
Afterwards, the minister stated that Peru needs a structural change in terms of security, from the regulatory framework —since the current one is outdated— to the number of police agents and patrol cars that must be watching our cities.
