Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa on Thursday affirmed that his sector will step up State's efforts to consolidate and successfully complete accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

"We will step up the Peruvian State's efforts to consolidate and successfully complete accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where the Government and the Peruvian society have a role to play, and where we must be the coordinators of this medium- and long-term national mission," he said during the ceremony marking the transfer of power to the incoming ministerial team.

As is known, last January Peru received the invitation from the Council of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to start the process of accession to this institution, which would put the country in a select international community, thus facilitating economic, legal, and institutional security, as well as a better integration into the world.

During the ceremony, the high-ranking official affirmed that the agenda for the participation of President Pedro Castillo at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting —to be held in Davos, Switzerland— will be resumed and will help promote private investment with social responsibility.

New measures

On the other hand, Landa remarked that his administration will incorporate the Amazon diplomacy into the Andean diplomacy, which is well known in the country.

In addition, he noted that his sector will  promote an adequate protection of populations living in border regions.

"I will seek to complement the Andean diplomacy with the Amazon diplomacy, taking into consideration our ties with Brazil and other countries in the Amazon River Basin, with the primary aim of preserving the environment and the rational use of natural resources, whilst working toward sustainable development in said region," the minister stated.

Moreover, the Cabinet member noted that he will promote an ocean diplomacy, in order to strengthen the Peruvian presence in major international forums on the protection of oceans and their resources.
