Peru's FA Min, Chinese counterpart highlight bilateral and investment ties

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi on Thursday reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations, which have reached the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and expressed their commitment to continue strengthening them.

In a phone conversation, Minister Maurtua referred to the forthcoming entry of Peru into the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which will help attract financial aid and mobilize funds particularly in the fields of energy, transport, connectivity, and sustainable cities. 
 
Additionally, he reaffirmed Peru's interest in continuing and completing the process of updating the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China, so that both peoples can take advantage of the major opportunities and benefits generated by said treaty as soon as possible.
 
Both senior officials highlighted the construction of Chancay Mega Port, as well as its great economic and social impact.
 
For his part, the Chinese diplomat mentioned that he will communicate President Pedro Castillo's interest in officially visiting China next year to President Xi Jinping.

In the same way, he expressed China's commitment to promoting a higher level of investment in Peru, and its intention to support the South American nation with the donation of medical equipment to combat the effects of COVID-19.
 
China is Peru's top trading partner and one of its main sources of foreign investment (with an estimated investment of US$30 billion in Peru).
