15:25 | Lima, Apr. 19.

The remains of the deceased ex-President of Peru, Alan Garcia, were cremated this afternoon at Huachipa's Camposanto Mapfre Cemetery.

Garcia's body was cremated according to his family's wishes.

Relatives, leading politicians, as well as APRA party leader and activists, attended the religious service held at the cemetery chapel.

A police cordon was set up around the area in order to provide security during the private ceremony.

People started to leave as the body was being put into the cremation chamber, shortly before 2:00 PM, as planned.

Alan Garcia, who served twice as President of Peru, died on Wednesday in the nation's capital city at the age of 69 over a self-inflicted shot to the head.

The Inca country's Executive Branch has declared three days —April 17-19— of national mourning for the death of the ex-President.
