Peru's Culture Min: New batch of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine to arrive on March 31

18:30 | Lima, Mar. 29.

Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra on Monday affirmed that a new batch of 49,140 doses of Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 will arrive on Wednesday.

At a press conference, Neyra stated that 200,070 doses per week will arrive in the country starting next week.

So far, 1,318,240 doses have been imported from different laboratories, which has made it possible to immunize health care workers and begin the vaccination of elderly people, even at private clinics.

According to the high-ranking official, the Government expects to end its term with 9 million people vaccinated and secure the acquisition of 90 million doses for the next government.

"So far, Peru has signed supply agreements with Sinopharm, for one million doses; Pfizer, for more than 20 million doses; AstraZenaca, for 14,040,000 doses; and COVAX Facility, for 13,200,000 doses," he said.

The minister noted that the Government has guaranteed 48 million doses so far and negotiations are still ongoing to reach that goal.

Neyra also emphasized that the restrictions decreed by the Government for Holy Week are about to go into effect and that Peruvians' commitment to curb COVID-19 infections is important.
