Peru's BAP Union arrives in Italy

The sailing training ship B.A.P. Union has arrived in Italy within the framework of the VIEX 2023-2024 foreign instruction voyage carried out by Peruvian Naval School cadets.

The vessel anchored in the port of Taranto, located in the southern part of the aforementioned European country. 


Upon its arrival, the BAP Union ship was received by Italian civil and military authorities, as well as representatives of the Embassy of Peru in Italy.

According to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peruvians living in Taranto also joined the welcome event, as well as locals in the Puglia region, who were dressed in traditional costumes from the area.

After this stopover, the training ship will continue its journey across Italy, sailing into the ports of Civitavecchia and La Spezia.

Vessel details

The emblematic Peruvian vessel, with capacity for 255 crewmembers, features rest rooms, carpentry and tailoring workshops, an infirmary, a kitchen, conference halls, as well as a multifunctional room where Peruvian products are exhibited.

The construction of the largest and fastest sailing ship in Latin America was carried out during 2012 and 2016 at the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA) shipyards.
