After leaving the Port of Cadiz in Spain and traveling through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean for 26 days, the Peruvian Navy's BAP Union sailing training ship arrived on March 2 at the Port of Baltimore, located in the State of Maryland on the eastern coast of the United States of America.

Prior to its arrival, the ship passed for the first time under 55.4-meter Memorial Bridge and 56.3-meter Key Bridge, in a feat that displayed the crew's professionalism.

BAP Union docked at the Inner Harbor of said port, where crewmembers were received in an arrival ceremony.

The event featured Peruvian Ambassador to U.S. Alfredo Ferrero, Peruvian Navy General Commander Admiral Luis Polar, Assistant Defense and Naval Attaché Rear Admiral Roberto Alcandre, Peruvian authorities before international bodies, U.S. Navy officials, and members of the Peruvian community residing in Baltimore, among other guests.

Baltimore is the seventeenth stop on the itinerary for the voyage that the Peruvian ship is making around the world as part of an international training trip for cadets of the Naval Academy of Peru.

The sailing training ship will remain in said port until March 6, during which time the crew will carry out a program of protocol and cultural activities, including open days on which BAP Union will be open to the public.

On the visit's first day, the commander of the training ship, Captain Jose Luis Arce, gave a press conference on board, in which he highlighted the visit to the North American country, which includes the Port of Miami.

Likewise, he noted the historical relations of friendship and cooperation in the fields of education and defense between the navies of Peru and the United States, which have been strengthened over time.

As a traveling embassy, BAP Union will also show Peruvian history and cultural heritage and will promote, through Peru Brand export products, investment and trade opportunities between both countries.
