Peru: Working population grew 1.2% in Apr-Jun 2019

Working population in Peru expanded 1.2% (195,800 people) between April and June 2019, compared to the same period last year, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported Thursday.

Likewise, INEI indicated employed population increased 1.7% (212,800) in urban areas, whereas it decreased 0.5% (-17,100) in rural zones. 

The report informed working population in the Inca country reached 16.784 million people. 55.4% of the total were men, whereas 44.6% were women.

Furthermore, working population expanded in the northern coast (10.6%) and highlands (10%), as well as central highland (9.1%) and coast (0.7%). 

However, it decreased in southern highland (-10.7%) and coastal (-10.3%) areas.

By groups, the working population aged 45 and above rose 3.5%, followed by people aged 25-44 (1%). 

On the other hand, employed people under 25 years old fell 3.1%. 

Unemployment rate 

Moreover, unemployment across Peru affected 3.9% of the Economically Active Population (EAP) between April and June this year, a lower figure compared to the three previous quarters.
