The historic center's Belen Church will be restored by the World Monuments Fund (WMF).
The said temple was built between the 17th and 18th Century.
An agreement was signed by the Culture Ministry and WMF to preserve and protect the building from filtration problems related to rains, Cajamarca Decentralized Culture Department Director Carla Diaz Garcia announced.
The technical file will be prepared within six month and include graveyard and cupolas restoration, as well as facade cleaning.
The budget will be determined once the file is ready. Works will be immediately carried out by specialists.
It must be noted the entire restoration process will be financed by WMF.
The initiative is deemed as an “emergency project” due to the deterioration witnessed. Previous works were carried out in the 1970s.
WMF is a private non-profit organization founded in 1965 by individuals concerned about the accelerating destruction of important artistic treasures throughout the world. It aims to identify imperiled cultural heritage sites and direct financial and technical support for their preservation.
