Peru will keep its borders closed due to COVID-19

02:07 | Lima, Apr. 25.

Peru's Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Lozada has announced that traffic at the country's borders will remain restricted as a preventive measure to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official indicated that borders will remain closed for a longer time, as the COVID-19 pandemic has not been overcome at the international level.

"For now, only humanitarian flights and the transport of cargo as well as merchandise will be operational. According to the evaluation by the sector's technical teams, we do not have the conditions to allow (commercial) flights (carrying passengers)," he stressed.

In this sense, Lozada indicated that —through the Ministries of Transport, Economy, and Foreign Trade-Tourism— a reactivation plan is being put together with the airlines.
