The Vice-President of the Republic Dina Boluarte met with United States Ambassador to Peru Lisa Kenna in Lima to exchange knowledge aimed at reducing social gaps.

During this meeting, the diplomat expressed the U.S. Government's interest in providing technical assistance, thus strengthening aid for people with disabilities through the State-run Contigo (With You) Program.

Contigo grants a non-contributory pension to citizens with severe disabilities in situation of poverty —progressively across the national territory so as to contribute to improving their quality of life.

Furthermore, the envoy affirmed that the embassy has experience in work similar to that of the Itinerant Social Action Platforms, since they rely on the Esperanza (Hope) Ship which provides health services to the population based in remote areas of Peru.

"We can provide support as well," she added.

Ambassador Kenna also stressed that investors now have more confidence in Peru.

A humane approach

"The humane approach of the United States is important to establish actions in favor of the most needy citizens in the country," Boluarte, the also Development and Social Inclusion Minister of Peru, affirmed.

This meeting was held after the trip made by President Pedro Castillo to the United States, within the framework of the Summit of the Americas held on June 6-10 in the city of Los Angeles, California.

At the summit, it was emphasized that Peru is working to draw investments and maintain economic growth, as well as to strengthen the fight against poverty.
