The Economy and Finance Ministry's Macroeconomic Policy and Fiscal Decentralization Director-General Alex Contreras on Thursday reported that two million jobs have been recovered only in Lima.

As is known, those positions had been lost in the early part of the year as a result of the health crisis.

"There was a drop in employment in the first months of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we observe that —between June and July— employment has been recovering rapidly, which is in line with the economic recovery," he expressed.

Likewise, the official commented that consumption is a variable which also fell significantly, but it will recover as long as other economic activities are reactivated.

"As we reach Phase 4 of the economic reactivation, and the second part of the Economic Plan is implemented to face the crisis, we will see a recovery in both formal and informal employment at the national level," he commented.

Tax reform

On the other hand, Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva ruled out a tax increase in 2021.

Remarks were made during a virtual press conference.
