Peru: Economic reactivation's Phase 4 to be addressed soon

01:00 | Lima, Aug. 27.

Production Minister Jose Salardi announced that the High-Level Multisectoral Commission against Coronavirus (COVID-19) will meet on August 31 to discuss the startup of the Economic Reactivation's Phase 4 in Peru.

The high-ranking official said that the logic of Economic Reactivation phases has taken into consideration the activities which denote a low to high exposure to the pandemic due to the concentration of people.

"Next Monday, there will be a new meeting of the Multisectoral Commission, in which the appropriate moment to launch this fourth phase will start to be defined based on health indicators and permanent monitoring by the Ministry of Economy and Finance," he told Andina news agency.

The Cabinet member indicated that activities comprised in the fourth phase involve international flights, gyms, cinemas, and recreation centers, among others.

"I project that the (corresponding) activities should be reactivated in the coming weeks, but all of them won't necessarily open simultaneously (...)," he said.

Minister Salardi pointed out that the country is already in the last stretch of the Economic Reactivation's Phase 3, adding that Phase 4 —which had initially been scheduled for the beginning of August— was delayed after considering the pandemic-related indicators.

Salardi also indicated that —although GDP will register negative growth rates in 2020— there are positive expectations for 2021, hoping that there will be a rebound effect, thus allowing the country's economy to quickly return to the growth path which had existed before the pandemic broke up in Peru.
