Specialists from the Regional Office for Disaster Risk Management and Security (ORGRDS) of Cusco, the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), and the cultural institution carried out a technical inspection of routes 1, 2, and 3 until this past weekend.
The Inca Trail was affected two weeks ago by unusual rainfall that caused landslides, overflowing streams, flooding, damage to footbridges, soil erosion, and the collapse of restroom facilities at campsites.
However, personnel from the DDC and Sernanp, with the support of Huayllabamba community residents, will continue carrying out maintenance work on certain sections of the network to ensure visitors' safety and integrity.
Additionally, it has been agreed to implement short-, medium-, and long-term actions to address the damage caused by the geodynamic activation of certain ravines and to reduce the risks these conditions may pose to visitors.
Both institutions are carrying out the necessary actions to ensure the proper functioning and safety of the ancestral trail to the Wonder of the World.
