Peruvian FOB (Free on Board) exports volume saw —in 2018— the highest level since 2002, posting a 5.6% increase compared to the previous year, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported Tuesday.
According to INEI's "Evolution of Exports and Imports" report— which relies on data provided by the National Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat)— this outcome was underpinned by greater shipments of traditional mining (+3.5%) and non-traditional (+17.3%) products.
As for the latter, the
agricultural (+18.9%),
fishery (+41.4%), chemical (+12.4%), textile (+6.5%), and iron-steel (+2.2%) sectors stood out.
Total export volume's main destinations were China (+30.1%), the United States (+15.2%), South Korea (+6.2%), Japan (+5.4%), and Spain (+5.0%).
Non-traditional products
This result was driven by greater shipments from the agricultural (+18.9%) and fishery (+41.4%) sectors.
Imports
FOB imports volume rose 3.7% in 2018, underpinned by
higher demand for raw materials and intermediary products intended for industry (+10.5%), non-durable consumption goods (+4.3%), transport equipment (+6.5%), and construction materials (+6.5%).
