Peru: Fishery sector increased 225.88% in December 2018

13:45 | Lima, Feb. 1.

Peruvian fishery sector's production expanded 225.88% in December 2018, compared to the same month a year earlier, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed Friday.

This outcome was underpinned by greater anchovy landings destined for indirect human consumption, which amounted to 33,596 tons, corresponding to the second month of last year's second fishing season.

It should be noted there were no anchovy captures in December 2017.

However, sea fishing intended for direct human consumption slid 1.09% due to lower catches of species destined for frozen (-6.3%) and canned (-0.4%) products.

However, landings of species for cured and fresh consumption goods increased 11.9% and 3.2%, respectively.
