Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday said that top mining projects —along with the reconstruction of areas hit by Coastal El Niño phenomenon— will be launched in the coming months.

In this sense, mega-projects Michiquillay (Cajamarca region) and Quellaveco (Moquegua region) stand out, among other top ventures such as: Pampa del Pongo (Arequipa region), Mina Justa (Ica region), and —eventually— Tia Maria (Arequipa region).

Michiquillay is an old project, which is about to be put up for tender.

On the other hand, the investment in Quellaveco ranges between US$4 and US$5 billion. The project should come out in early-2018.

It must be noted Multiannual Macroeconomic Framework (MMM) 2018-2021 forecasts do not entail Quellaveco mine construction. Thus, its implementation could increase Peru's annual GDP between 0.3 and 0.5 percentage points.
