Peru to register one of highest GDP growth rates in LatAm

13:17 | Lima, Jul. 31.

National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep) Chairman Roque Benavides on Tuesday affirmed Peru's 4% GDP growth in 2018 will be one of the highest in Latin America.

According to Benavides, this rate will be higher compared to that of global growth. Yet, it is not enough to reduce poverty, which is why Peruvian economy needs to expand beyond 6%.

"The economy is growing at a 4% rate, but it is really low for the potential we have. That is why we should not settle for it," the officer told RPP radio and TV news station.

"To fight poverty and have a better future, it (the economy) needs to expand 6% or 7%," he underlined.

Furthermore, Benavides explained the Andean nation must promote investment in all sectors to see greater growth rates.

"Peru needs to place value on everything it has, which would be significant because we have so much to offer," he pointed out.

Address to the nation

On the other hand, Benavides highlighted President Martin Vizcarra has taken the lead in terms of proposals and decision-making following his Independence Day address to the nation.

In this regard, the guild head noted all Peruvians are waiting for decisions to solve the problems that overwhelm them, such as the instability in the Judicial Branch.
