Peru will take part in an international conference to be held on May 28 in Santiago, Chile, where participants will analyze the problem of international crime affecting countries in the region.

This was announced by Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Pareja, who said representatives from the governments of Argentina, Ecuador, and Chile will participate in the meeting as well.

Likewise, the diplomat mentioned that he will attend the event accompanied by Interior Minister Jose Zapata.

"I will travel on May 28 to Santiago, Chile, accompanied by the Interior minister, for a conference on international crime and to address the entire issue of criminal migration, because we have great respect for Venezuelan migration, but within that migration of more than one million people there are also individuals involved in illegal activities," he explained.

The Cabinet member said the issue will be the subject of coordination, dialogue, and the adoption of certain decisions during the meeting.

The Foreign Affairs minister also announced he will travel to Costa Rica this Thursday to participate in the presidential inauguration ceremony and convey President Jose Maria Balcazar's greetings to the new Head of State of the Central American nation.

Moreover, the Peruvian government official announced that he will soon visit Bolivia and Brazil in order to foster good relations with neighboring countries.

Marco Rubio visit

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs minister indicated that the date for the visit to Peru by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has not yet been set.

"There is no date yet. The United States ambassador has repeatedly said that the Secretary of State will visit, but no date has been announced so far," Pareja told reporters.

"This year marks the bicentennial of the establishment of relations between Peru and the United States. The initial date was May 2, but the commemoration will actually extend throughout the year, with various anniversaries and celebrations taking place. One of those events will be the visit by Secretary Marco Rubio, although the date has not yet been announced," he concluded.
