People traveling the Inca Trail Network who wish to continue their journey to the
Llaqta —Peru's tourist jewel— will be able to do so by following a specific route designed for them, while respecting the daily visitor limits.
The
measure follows an amendment to the Regulation on Sustainable Use and Tourist Visits for the Conservation of the Llaqta, or Inca City of Machu Picchu (Ministerial Resolution 070-2017-MC), issued by the Ministry of Culture (Mincul).
It added Article 15-B to the aforementioned regulation, which establishes measures regarding entry ticket to the Machu Picchu Llaqta for guests coming from the Inca Trail Network.
It is established that these visitors will be able to access the Llaqta's Route 3-B circuit, "in accordance with the daily approved capacity" for this area of Machu Picchu.
Reason for the regulation
The measure is prompted by the fact that the aforementioned regulation establishes mechanisms to coordinate ticket management between the Inca Trail Network and the Machu Picchu Llaqta.
This omission occurs "despite the fact that both are part of the same cultural domain subject to integrated management."
It is specified that the number of tickets issued for this will be limited daily and must be "reserved and paid for in advance through authorized agencies" using the electronic ticketing system.
The recipients of these passes will be visitors of the Inca Trail.
It also indicated that this measure must not affect the total visitor capacity of the Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary, considered a Cultural Heritage of the Nation and part of UNESCO's World Heritage List.
