Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Tuesday thanked the Government of the United States for donating 2 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 to Peru.

According to the Cabinet chief, Peru is one of the first countries to receive the donation after showing that it has the equipment needed to handle the Pfizer doses in an excellent and professional manner.

In addition, it should be pointed out that Peru has already signed a framework agreement with said laboratory, under which the country has received doses to speed up the vaccination process.

After noting that 50% of the batch donated by the United States would arrive today, Bermudez pointed out that the age range of people eligible for COVID-19 vaccination will be lowered as the number of purchased doses increases.

So far, it has been confirmed that the country has received nearly 16 million vaccines to immunize 8 million Peruvians until the end of the current Government's term.

"Vaccines are being administered as they arrive. The age will further drop if more doses arrive," the Prime Minister said in statements to RPP radio and TV station.
