Peru: Tarapoto hospital receives 118 oxygen cylinders in COVID-19 fight

An important consignment of 118 oxygen cylinders —acquired by San Martin Regional Government through Hospital No. II of Tarapoto— arrived Wednesday in said rainforest city on a flight from northern Chiclayo city operated by the Peruvian Air Force.

Upon arrival, the cylinders were immediately delivered to the aforementioned hospital for the use of COVID-19 patients.

The shipment included 101 cylinders of 8 cubic meters each and 17 of 6 cubic meters, which provide enough oxygen to meet the demand for the next 72 hours.


In this regard, the Regional Health Directorate reported that another 50 cylinders have been sent, by land, from northern Peru. 

Likewise, it informed that the hospital will be provided with 180 oxygen cylinders every 3 days.

On the other hand, San Martin Regional Government noted that the maintenance and repair of Tarapoto Hospital's oxygen plant shall be completed in 15 days. 

In addition to this plant, the one at Tocache Hospital and that of Moyobambino Hospital, five other plants will be added in Huallaga, Tarapoto, Moyobamba, and the refurbished hospital in La Banda de Shilcayo.
