Peru suspends flights from/to Europe and Asia starting March 16

14:15 | Lima, Mar. 13.

Starting Monday, March 16, the arrival/departure of flights from/for Europe and Asia will be suspended with the aim of reinforcing the measures for the prevention of contagion of coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the regulation published Friday in the official newspaper El Peruano.

The Supreme Decree No. 008-2020-MTC —issued by the Transport and Communications Ministry— specifies that the preventive measure will be in place for a period of 30 days.

It details that its application is with respect to international commercial aviation and general aviation flights, due to reasons of public interest.

Likewise, it indicates that the duration period of this suspension may be extended by the Ministry, according to information on the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic evolution issued by the Health authority.

The Supreme Decree No. 008-2020-MTC was signed by the President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra; the President of the Council of Ministers Vicente Zeballos; the Minister of Health Elizabeth Hinostroza; and the Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Lozada.

The regulation was adopted based on different factors, one of them being the March 11 declaration made by the World Health Organization (WHO) that described the spread of the Coronavirus as a pandemic because it is present in more than 100 countries.
