Peru suspends arrival of flights from Europe, Asia due to coronavirus

The Government on Thursday agreed to suspend the arrival of flights from Europe and Asia —starting March 16 for 30 days— in order to strengthen the measures aimed at preventing the coronavirus (COVID-19) from spreading in Peru.

As is known, the Executive Branch on Thursday made official the creation of the High-Level Multisectoral Commission to Lead Coordination and Articulation Efforts Aimed at Prevention, Protection and Control of Coronavirus (Covid-19). The above-mentioned decision was made during its first session.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 083-2020-PCM, this working group is chaired by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as well as composed of the leaders of the Health, Defense, Interior, Foreign Trade-Tourism, Transport-Communications, Economy-Finance, and Education Ministries.

Likewise, it will comprise Peru's Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) executive-president, the Migrations superintendent, the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) head, and a representative of the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR).

The group will be in charge of leading the coordination and articulation of the actions for the prevention, protection, and control of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) by the various entities in charge of the matter.

It will also propose actions and activities aimed at the prevention, and control of the COVID-19.

Additionally, it carry out monitoring, as well as the actions and measures that contribute to the fulfillment of the Government's objectives in the face of the current situation.
