Peru Soccer Federation President arrested for alleged influence peddling

National Police members on Thursday morning detained Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo, who is being investigated for his alleged participation in a criminal organization known as the Port's White Collars.

The arrest occurred by order of the National Criminal Appeals Chamber specializing in corruption offenses committed by officials.

According to first reports, Oviedo was captured at around 7:25 AM in Lima's San Borja district.

Jorge Chavez, the coordinator of special prosecutions against organized crime, reported the preliminary detention was ordered for 10 days.


Additionally, the Judicial Branch has ruled to lift Oviedo's secrecy of communications.

Edwin Oviedo is being investigated for alleged influence peddling, following the release of phone conversations and testimonies of cooperating witnesses, who affirm he used to give monthly sums of money to dismissed Supreme Judge Cesar Hinostroza in exchange for judicial favors.
