Peru is putting forward its candidature for re-election to the Council of the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Category C, for the 2020–2021 period, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.
Via Twitter, the ministry asserted that this measure is part of its commitment to enhancing maritime transport security, as well as environment protection.
About IMO
As a specialized agency of the United Nations, IMO is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security, and environmental performance of international shipping.
Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, as well as universally adopted and implemented.
