Peru reiterates call to release political prisoners in Venezuela

15:05 | Lima, Jun. 15.

Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry on Friday reiterated its call to release all political prisoners in Venezuela with the purpose of restoring the rule of law in the neighboring country.

In this sense, the Ministry pointed out Peruvian-Venezuelan student Villca Elohin Mardonio Fernandez Marcano was recently released from El Helicoide prison in Caracas.

It must be noted Fernandez had been detained without a warrant and held at Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN) headquarters since late January 2016.

The Consulate General of Peru in Caracas provided the young man with the relevant assistance to coordinate his immediate relocation to Lima.

The student's release was possible thanks to articulated efforts undertaken by his family and friends, as well as human rights organizations, and the Inca country's Foreign Affairs Ministry.
