Peru welcomed 1,956,084 international tourists from January to July this year, a 0.1% decline compared to the same period in 2025 (1,957,443), according to the
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
Mincetur noted that the result recorded through July was driven mainly by the arrival of international tourists residing in Chile, which totaled 414,000 visitors and accounted for 21.2% of the total, although this represented a 3.5% decline compared to the same period in 2025.
They were followed by the United States, with 381,000 tourists (19.5% of the total and a 2.8% increase); Ecuador, with 152,000 (7.8% and a 0.7% decline); Brazil, with 104,000 (5.3% and a 0.7% decline); Bolivia, with 103,000 (5.3% and a 7.5% decline); and Colombia, with 97,000 (5% and a 7.8% decline).
Regional blocs
Mincetur noted that, at the regional-bloc level, visitors residing in South America accounted for 49.2% of total arrivals (962,591 international tourists).
Likewise, North America accounted for 24.9% of the total (486,000 tourists), Europe for 17.4% (340,000 tourists), Asia for 4.5% (88,000 tourists), and Central America for 2.7% (53,000 tourists).
Regarding international arrivals into Peru through the various Migration Control Posts, Jorge Chavez International Airport (AIJC) stood out, recording 1.3 million international tourists (65.9% of the total).
It was followed by the Santa Rosa Border Control Post in Tacna, which recorded the entry of 307,000 tourists (15.7%); the Tumbes Binational Border Service Center, which received 137,000 tourists (7%); and the Desaguadero/Carancas/CEBAF Border Control Post in Puno, which registered 90,000 tourists (4.6%).
Main tourist attractions
Mincetur highlighted that, from January to May 2026, the Magic Water Circuit in Lima consolidated its position as the country's most visited tourist attraction, recording 1,229,613 visitors.
Of the total, 95% were domestic visitors and 5% were foreign tourists.
In second place was the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, which welcomed 644,844 visitors.
This figure represented a 7.9% decline compared to the same period in 2025 and reached 89.5% of the level recorded between January and May 2019.
Likewise, 82.1% of the visitors were foreign tourists, while 17.9% were domestic visitors.
Outbound travel
According to Mincetur, during the same period, the number of resident Peruvians traveling abroad reached a total of 2,002,559, a year-on-year increase of 1.7%.
Additionally, this figure exceeded the level recorded between January and June 2019 by 3.8%.
By regional bloc, 62.1% of resident Peruvians who traveled abroad for tourism visited countries in South America.
In terms of specific destinations, Chile ranked first (572,000 tourists), followed by the United States (231,000), Spain (193,000), Bolivia (189,000), Colombia (175,000), and Panama (124,000), among others.
