Peru's Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group members on Monday raided a property located at the exclusive Los Cocos Beach, in Cañete's Asia district, which belongs to Roxanne Cheesman —ex-partner of former President Alan Garcia (1985-1990; 2006-2011).

According to El Comercio newspaper, the order was made by the Judiciary's Second Preparatory Investigation Court for Corruption Offenses Committed by Public Officials, on request of the Lava Jato team.

The raid was aimed at searching and seizing relevant material for the investigation.

For instance, the team searched for documents linked to the payment routes of the bribes from former Odebrecht representative in Peru Jorge Barata to Alan Garcia, with or without the intermediation of Luis Nava —ex-Secretary General of the Presidency and former Production Minister under the Garcia administration (2006-2011).

Likewise, it looked for equipment that may contain accounting or administrative information related to the matter, as well as anything deemed as relevant.

Deputy Prosecutors Larry Rengifo and Meryl Huaman participated in the raid, as well as other Lava Jato team members.

"I know that Jorge Barata in 2006, at the campaign building, delivered between five and six lunch boxes with approximately US$60,000 to Alan Garcia," he told prosecutors on September 25 at the Castro Castro Prison.

The ex-Secretary-General —who was later designated as a State minister— went on to add the money deliveries continued even after Garcia had assumed the Presidency of Peru in July 2006.

In this sense, the former Head of State received US$60,000 on December 31, 2006; US$600,000 on April 6, 2007; and US$20,000 on September 27, 2007.

"Before his second term in office, Alan Garcia signed up to become a member of Club La Marina Lima, in the Costa Verde (area), and he mentioned he had bought a lot at the location of the above-mentioned club to dock a ship," the ex-aide expressed on that occasion.

He also mentioned the purchase of a property at Los Cocos Beach, bought during Garcia's second term in office and registered under the name of his then-partner Roxanne Cheesman, with whom he had a child in 2005.
