Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews on Thursday projected that 3.2 million foreign tourists will arrive in Peru this year.
"There is an expectation for inbound tourism that it could reach 3.2 million visitors from abroad this year, considering that, according to preliminary figures, Peru might have reached close to 2.5 million (visits) by the end of 2023," Mathews told Andina news agency.
"Regarding domestic tourism, around 37 million trips might have been reached in 2023, and we are thinking of exceeding 40 million this year," he added.
Minister Mathews indicated that these are conservative projections, because 2024 has just started. Yet a promotional campaign will be launched to continue supporting Peru as an international tourist destination.
The upcoming event will take place in Madrid, Spain, from January 24 to 28.
