Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews reported that 2,261,997 international tourists arrived in Peru between January and November 2023.
This figure represented an increase of 24.8% (450,000 tourists) compared to the same period in 2022.
Tourists came mainly from Chile (538,000; up 23.8%), followed by the United States (435,000) and Ecuador (220,000). Together, they made up 528% of total foreign arrivals.
At the regional level, South America accounted for 541% (1.2 million international tourists) of the total.
On the other hand, 24% of visitors (543,000 tourists) came from North America, 14.9% from Europe, 3.3% from Asia, and 2.7% from Central America.
"Given the evolution of incoming tourism, we still expect 2.5 million tourists to come this year. This figure is positive due to the importance of tourism for the national economy," Mathews explained.
"Tourism is an important generator of jobs and foreign exchange. We will continue to make efforts to recover and exceed pre-pandemic levels in the shortest time possible," he highlighted.
It should be noted that 233,842 international tourists arrived in Peru in November alone, an increase of 11.7% (25,000 tourists) compared to the same month in 2022.
In said month, the main issuing countries were: Chile (49,000 tourists), followed by the United States (44,000), Ecuador (25,000), Bolivia (15,000), and Colombia (15,000); together they accounted for 62.7% of total arrivals.
