Peru: Presidential trip to U.S. authorized by Congress

During a plenary session on Thursday, Congress approved the draft legislative resolution that authorizes President Dina Boluarte to leave the national territory from September 17 to 21, 2023, to participate in the 78th Period of Sessions of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, United States.

The initiative received 71 votes in favor, 39 against, and two (2) abstentions.


The request for authorization of the presidential trip is made pursuant to the provisions of subparagraph 9 of Article 102 of the Political Constitution of Peru and Article 8-A of the Law No. 29158 (Organic Law of the Executive Branch) introduced by virtue of Law No. 31810, regarding the entrusting of the Presidential Office and its management through digital technologies.

The President's participation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19, at 8 p.m. New York time (7 p.m. Peruvian time).

As part of her visit to the United States, the Peruvian Head of State will also hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts and high authorities from the United Nations System.

The draft legislative resolution, which authorizes Mrs. Boluarte to travel abroad and manage the Presidential Office remotely, was the first item on today's parliamentary agenda.
