Peru: Gov't asks Congress authorization for presidential trip to U.S.

The Executive Branch has submitted a draft legislative resolution to the Congress of the Republic so that the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte can be authorized to leave the national territory from September 17 to 21, 2023, to travel to New York, United States.

During her trip, the Head of State will participate in the High-level Week of the 78th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

The request for authorization of the presidential trip is made pursuant to the provisions of subparagraph 9 of Article 102 of the Political Constitution of Peru and Article 8-A of the Law No. 29158 (Organic Law of the Executive Branch) introduced by virtue of Law No. 31810, regarding the entrusting of the presidential office and its management through digital technologies.

According to the document sent by the Executive Branch to Congress Chairman Alejandro Soto, President Boluarte will take part in the main activities of the UN General Assembly High-level Week, to be held on September 18, 19, and 20 this year.

So far, the participation of the Peruvian dignitary is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19, at 8 p.m. New York time (7 p.m. Peruvian time).

Presidents Luis Arce of Bolivia, Alberto Fernandez of Argentina, and Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay, among other Heads of State in the region, will also participate in this space.

As part of her visit to the United States, Mrs. Boluarte will also hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts and senior authorities from the United Nations system, who will be present at the High-level Week.

The draft legislative resolution authorizing the President of the Republic to leave the country shall be debated and voted during a Congress' plenary session.
