The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Saturday visited the Peruvian Naval Medical Center in Lima, a contingency establishment to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru.
The Head of State was joined by Ministers Victor Zamora (Health) and Walter Martos (Defense) on the occasion.
The first basic artificial respirator was manufactured at this establishment.
Within this framework, the top official reported that —in the next few days— the first 10 mechanical ventilators for critically-ill COVID-19 patients will be manufactured in Peru thanks to a technology developed by various institutions.
In this sense, the statesman said that the General Directorate for Medicines, Inputs and Drugs (Digemid) has already granted the corresponding authorization for the production of mechanical ventilators to the Naval Medical Center.
Saturday marks the twentieth day of mandatory social isolation.
