Peru President to open Meeting of Regional Conference on Population and Development

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra will today inaugurate the 3rd Meeting of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Scheduled for August 7-9, the event will gather representatives from all 46 member countries and 14 associate members of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), joined by delegates from international organizations, the academy, private sector, and civil society.


At the gathering, countries will follow up on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus. Said document is the region's most important intergovernmental agreement on population and development signed to date.

Within this framework, participants will also examine the project of the first regional report on the agreement's implementation and analyze a proposal for a virtual platform to contribute to regional follow-up of the Montevideo Consensus

The Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean is a subsidiary body of ECLAC. It convenes every two years and its Presiding Officers, currently headed by Mexico, meet at least once between regular sessions.

The event will be held at Lima Convention Center.
