Peru: President Sagasti highlights Government's economic measures

The President of the Republic President Francisco Sagasti on Thursday underlined the set of measures recently approved by his administration, which are intended to boost to the economic recovery of Peru.

"Yesterday, we approved a set of measures that will contribute to the process of economic recovery and job creation, and will make it possible to serve the most vulnerable households through direct financial and food support," he indicated.

The Head of State mentioned that his administration has allocated S/35 million (about US$9.52 million) to support community pots and soup kitchens, within the framework of the Food Supplementation Program developed by the Development and Social Inclusion Ministry.

Likewise, the Executive Branch expanded the budget of Trabaja Peru (Work, Peru) Program for the creation of more than 72,000 additional temporary jobs nationwide.

"We approved the financing of the 600 Bonus (government grants) for the provinces under extreme alert (due to the pandemic), and we have also allocated resources to face the impacts of COVID-19 in the Interior and Culture sectors," he explained.

Furthermore, the top official recalled that the Government has extended the grace period of Reactiva Peru and FAE-Mype Programs for up to an additional year, so that companies can regain their ability to generate income.

"We made the use of canon resources more flexible so that regional and local governments can guarantee the adequate provision of services, within the framework of their competences, for example in the fight against COVID-19 and to boost public investments," he wrote on Twitter.

On the other hand, he stressed the fact that his administration had recently placed bonds for US$4 billion to help balance public finances.

"The good results of this issuance reaffirm the interest and confidence of investors in the country," Mr. Sagasti underlined.

"The pandemic imposes complex challenges on us and requires timely responses on health, economy, and security, among others," he concluded.
