Peru President receives surprise birthday greeting from Gov't Palace staff

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday afternoon received a warm birthday greeting from Government Palace workers.

The employees decided to surprise him with a small cake and sang the birthday song keeping their distance from one another.


"We must continue working, exactly the same, without letting our guard down. Someone asked me what I want for my birthday, (thus,) I ask all Peruvians for the most important gift today, March 22, which is to stay at home," the Head of State said earlier during a televised Address to the Nation.

"Respect the Government instructions and regulations. Help us all to defeat this enemy, this virus, which will be defeated by all of us together," he added.

Mr. Vizcarra turned 57 today. As is known, he officially took office on March 23, 2018, to replace resigning Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

Approval at 87%

According to an Ipsos-Peru poll published in El Comercio newspaper on Sunday, 87% of the population approve of the President's performance, whereas 11% do not, and 2% have no opinion on the matter.

Likewise, 83% of citizens indicated that they approve of the Government's performance against COVID-19, 16% disapprove of it, and 1% did not specify.
