The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday participated in the ceremony to commemorate the 202nd Anniversary of Creation of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event took place at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

On August 3, 1821, a few days after the Independence of Peru was proclaimedthe Ministry of State and Foreign Affairs was created by means of a decree issued by General Jose de San Martin.

It was called the Secretariat of State at that time.

Back then, Cartagena-born diplomat Juan Garcia del Rio was appointed Minister of State.

Thus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the oldest institution in Peru during its independent life.
