The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Monday afternoon stressed that more than 3 million school students will benefit from the delivery of food, whose distribution was started today by the Qali Warma Program —which is run by the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis).

Within this framework, the Head of State specified that a total of 17,000 tons of packaged food —already stored at 58,941 public educational institutions across the country— will be distributed among minors.

Likewise, the top official stated that the Government has decided to proceed with the delivery of food that had already been stored at schools, and whose delivery was suspended due to the declaration of emergency enacted to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru.

"We cannot keep food stored. As of today, distribution began to meet the needs of students, and that will benefit the neediest families," he expressed.

The statesman indicated that the distribution will be in charge of each School Feeding Committee and that coordination has been made with the Peruvian National Police to ease the delivery of food.

On this occasion, the President was joined by some members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Monday marks the thirty-sixth day of mandatory social isolation.
