The "Include to Grow" strategy has enabled over 2 million Peruvians to leave poverty behind, Peru's President Ollanta Humala informed.

"The government's main objective has been -and still is- focused on bringing the State closer to citizens, reducing inequality gaps and integrating the country. We fulfilled the commitment made in 2011 […]," he affirmed.

Likewise, the Peruvian leader indicated his administration has been characterized by a strong accent on social policy and sustained economic growth.

Under this approach, priority axes —such as education reform, the National Plan for Productive Diversification and social policy— were implemented, he said.

Education

Mr. Humala also highlighted the education budget has steadily increased, reaching 4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which led to the historical figure of S/.13.00 billion (about US$3.87 billion) for educational infrastructure enhancement purposes.

"Our administration has built and enhanced nearly 4,000 schools in every region of the country, mainly in the rural area; next year 22 High Performance Schools will be ready in those regions to empower students' skills, so they will have the chance to opt for the International Baccalaureate," he noted.

Social programs

At the same time, the Head of State emphasized citizens nationwide have benefitted from social programs, such as Beca 18, Qali Warma and Pension 65.

Moreover, he expressed the "health sector is also a priority" to this administration. Thus, a total of 16 million Peruvians have been included in the free-of-charge Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS).

On the other hand, Peru's top official indicated that extreme poverty was reduced from 6.34% to 4.28% over the last 4 years.

Last night, President Ollanta Humala made remarks in a televised address within the framework of year-end season.

He will leave office on July 28, 2016.
