Peru President: Lima 2019 to leave legacy for sports and infrastructure

10:55 | Lima, Jun. 19.

President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games will leave infrastructure as the legacy for all citizens, so they can practice various sports.

During the inspection of the Andres Avelino Caceres Complex in Lima's peripheral Villa Maria del Triunfo district, the Head of State indicated all works intended for team sports have been completed at the location.

"We have complied with the completion of infrastructure thanks to the latest technology, so this competition can be a world-class one (…)," he expressed.

Within this framework, the top official informed 41 countries of the Americas will participate in this international competition. Thus, 9,000 athletes will arrive in Peru to be a part of the Pan American and Parapan American Games

"Their teams will come here, too. Therefore, 15,000 visitors linked to sports matters will come to support their countries and to get to know Peru. For that reason, 175,000 visitors are projected to be here for this competition," the statesman added.

Likewise, he pointed out this tournament will enable the qualification for 22 disciplines to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Furthermore, President Vizcarra noted Peruvians who win medals (gold, silver, and bronze) —apart from having the honor to represent the Inca country— will receive each an apartment at the Pan American and Parapan American Village
