The newly renovated Velodrome at National Sports Village (VIDENA) has been delivered to the Peruvian Cycling Federation, thus becoming one of the most important project milestones of the
Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
The venue was refurbished to meet international standards and is now one of the most important cycling tracks throughout the continent.
Randy Shafer, American UCI official certifier, arrived in Peru to verify the remodeled facilities. After his inspection, Shafer certified the track. With this certification, the velodrome got ready to be the venue for track cycling at the Pan American Games and Para cycling track at the Parapan American Games.
The UCI representative also checked the track cycling competition equipment, which includes the starting gate, photo finish, countdown clock and lap counter.
95 athletes from all over the Americas will participate in the track cycling competition. The Pan American Games at this venue will be held between August 1 and 4.
Peru will be represented by 16 cyclists between women and men including Andres Gonzales, who is training in Europe, Royner Navarro and Alonso Gamero, who will participate in the middle-distance cycling events and the road cycling competition at Costa Verde beachfront.
Sprint, keirin, omnium, team sprint, team pursuit and madison are the events to be held at the Pan American Games. Women will compete in the same events.
